Acetylcholine

A neurotransmitter that is released at the ends of nerve fibers in the somatic and parasympathetic nervous systems

Acute respiratory failure

The level of oxygen in the blood becomes too low or level of carbon dioxide in blood becomes too high. Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a cause of sudden and severe lung failure.

Anticholinesterase

An enzyme or drug that blocks the action of acetylcholinesterase, increasing the stimulating effect of acetylcholine on muscles

Atrophy

A wasting or decrease in the size of an organ or tissue

Autoimmune Disease

Antibodies are produced against one's own tissues

Congenital Myasthenia Gravis

An inherited condition, caused by a genetic defect that develops shortly after birth

Diplopia

Double vision

Dysarthria

Difficulty in articulating words, caused by impairment of the muscles used in speech

Electromyography

A device for recording electric currents from an active muscle to produce an electromyogram

Fatigue

Temporary diminution of the irritability or functioning of organs, tissues, or cells after excessive stimulation.
